Elektromreža Srbije participates in CROSSBOW, one of the most significant development and innovation projects of the European Union in the energy sector.
CROSSBOW aims to propose the shared use of resources to foster cross-border management of variable renewable energies and storage units, enabling a higher penetration of clean energies whilst reducing network operational costs and improving economic benefits of clean energies and storage units.
Its multidisciplinary consortium consists of 24 partners from 13 European countries, with a large share of regional involvement.
CROSSBOW is expected to contribute to the creation of more than 70.000 jobs, the access to better quality energy services of more than 50 million citizens and businesses, the saving of 3 MTons of GHG, and the increase of 10% in the share of RES (15,2 TWh), among other impacts.
By participating in this project, Elektromreža Srbije is developing innovative technical solutions for more efficient system management with a large share of renewable energy sources tailored to its needs. This is especially important for EMS, given the need to implement European technical regulations and the intensive connection of wind farms to the national transmission system, which also requires new approaches to the use of existing reversible hydropower plants in our system. Further concrete investments in the power system are expected based on the project results.
CROSSBOW is funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program and ends in October 2021.
